When asked to conjure up an image of an electric
vehicle, most people would tend to picture a slow, efficient and
relatively bland vehicle. But German automaker Mercedes-Benz
is aiming to dispel that notion and judging by its latest electric
vehicle, it’s done just that. Revealed earlier than expected,
Mercedes-Benz’s new SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is just the second car
from the company to feature the Electric Drive technology and arguably
one of the most dramatic production models it has produced.
Pictured here in a striking blue paint job, the new electric vehicle utilizes four electric motors positioned near the wheels to produce an astonishing 740 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque, hardly what one would expect from an electric car. Mercedes-Benz quotes a 0-60mph time of 3.9 seconds with an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph, though we’re confident some will find a way to bypass that relatively conservative number. The first deliveries of this limited production model will begin in July of next year with prices in Germany set to start at an eye-watering €416,500 EUR (approximately $536,200 USD).
